Piano tuning

Tuning a piano involves a thorough examination of its condition. Since the piano is largely made of wood, it is susceptible to changes in density caused by humidity. The ideal times to tune it are therefore in the fall, when the heating begins, and in the spring, when it is shut down. Piano manufacturers strongly recommend having your piano tuned twice a year. It is also advisable to maintain a relative humidity level between 40% and 55% to preserve the quality of the instrument.

I offer my piano tuner services in the Charlevoix and Quebec region. I perform the complete tuning and general check of your piano. I will also provide you with advice to preserve the stability of the tuning.

Prices may increase slightly beyond 65 km.

Pitch tuning

In its current state, your piano is not able to maintain its tuning.

A pitch adjustment involves additional work on the strings to properly tune your piano. This process is often necessary if the piano has not been tuned for several years, if there are significant fluctuations in room humidity, or if the piano has been moved recently.

If this step is neglected, the piano will quickly lose its pitch and will not be able to maintain a correct melody over time.

Key repair

The piano action is particularly complex with several adjustments for each key of the piano that differ between upright pianos and grand pianos. The piano technician can use a wide range of adjustments that allow him to vary these adjustments for the very different needs of one piano to another. All these adjustments are precisely adjusted to facilitate playing and give the pianist total control over the dynamics and quality of the sound. Humidity can influence the action. The adjustment begins with the keyboard, continues with the required mechanical adjustments, and ends with the tuning of the piano. These adjustments ensure a consistent response of the keys and a balanced sound. These adjustments are carried out in the customer's home.

Restoration of piano mechanics

Sometimes, the piano requires a complete restoration of its action to regain its optimal potential. It may be necessary to have replacement parts for the piano action, or even to replace the hammers or strings entirely. Repairs are mainly done in the workshop, especially for the hammers and the complex action of the instrument.

Full service
(All-in-one)

A piano's humidity-sensitive action requires meticulous adjustments to the depth and height of each key, in addition to lubricating the pivots and thoroughly cleaning the keyboard bed. I then perform hundreds of delicate adjustments to the action. Next, I voice the piano's hammers to ensure tactile uniformity and a balanced sound. I also adjust the string level and ensure they are properly positioned on the soundboard bridges. This service also includes tuning to equal temperament at a frequency of 440 Hz, as well as a complete cleaning of the action, as well as the soundboard and cabinet. Part of the work can be done in the workshop, while the rest is done at the customer's home. For more information on the details of this service, go to the homepage and click on the button
